Ice Caves 2014
The mainland ice caves of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore are located near Cornucopia, WI. Beautiful ice formations are formed in the existing caves when water seeps through cracks in the sandstone and then freezes. Access to the ice caves is by foot across the frozen lake from Meyer Beach. Access to the caves is only possible when the lake has frozen to an extent that it is safe for travel. 2014 was the first time in five years that the NPS permitted access to the caves.
